Four guys from Tampere, Finland, summon the spirits of the 70s ancestors, the souls of the fathers of Rock from psychedelic till hard, always melodic, yet tinged by Flower Power of the 60s - and they just do it brutally great!
It starts with a song in which Deep Purple as the godfather has let kissed the ring. Even the voice is on a convincing level, has something between David Coverdale, Axl Rose and Jon Bon Jovi, and the song rocks in the mid-tempo similar to Perfect Stranger. After that, the speed increases with "The Way It Is"; Whitesnake and early Queen leave salutations. Because diversified ideas let the songs shine, boredom nowhere appears. The riffs and melodies are mixed up by tempo changes and "song in song" variants. Valleys and mountains - dualisms of tranquility and ecstasy form tension.
The guitarist plays a phantastic ax with everything you need from massive to funky, high voltage to progressive. Bass and drums model unobtrusive but concise structures which carry and transport the muscles of guitar-riffs and -solos and expressive vocals.
To relax from so much energy comes a beautiful, dreamy song "Controller Of The Weather" accompanied by acoustic guitar, at times like at the beginning of Led Zeppelin Stairways To Heaven. After the contemplative silent part follows the pretty strange "Small Hours Tea With Milk," in which different elements into a psychedelic dance are brought together, which sends the listener on an varied trip of music styles and leads him forward into the subsequent fiery instrumental "Sinisessä Huoneessa"; even a saxophone drives some lines in this room. In "Dandelion Beach" meets a Western harmonica Police-like rhythm. And in "Schrödinger´s Cat" flickers something of Hawkwind´s spacy synth frequencies. The songs go partly into each other, so there is no breathtaking inside the delirium.
After so many references to earlier rock bands of the 70´s it could occur the impression that everything already have once happened and was heard somewhen before - but this is deceptive. In some ways there have been before 40 years already the basic structures of this kind of songs and mood; but here an own personality, an own spirit is inside. On a solid base, Mushaboom have built their own universe mixed with fresh ideas. Technically the sound is excellent, clear and punchy. Brilliant debut album! High level of entertainment! Love!
