With „III“, the Finns of Doom Unit present their third album in five years. Even though I stumbled across their name quite a few times in the past, I have never really paid much attention to their music. Bad for me, because I immediately get the feeling that I might have missed something. And after listening to their earlier records I realize that I indeed did but this, their new record is miles better than the old ones, “Cross the Line” and The Burden of Bloom”. Occasionally reminding of System of a Down, these guys know how to rock and they do it with lots of variation and in style. While the first three songs, “Blood of the Enemies”, “Get Away” and “The Circle”, are still a bit more on the rough and meaningful side, “Crawler” is a straight forward, awesome Rock song with great riffs and a good melody - my absolute favorite on the record. So it goes on in the same way with “Pathfinder”, a midtempo song full of emotions. Placing these two songs in the middle of the record was a great idea; in general, the song selection is superb. Also the following songs hit the bull´s-eye, so the record ends harmoniously. There are some weaker songs on the record, too. Especially the single, “Get Away”, for which there is also a video clip (http://youtu.be/3MXLRlWA4rY), seems to not show the whole talent of the band. But there really is not a single bad song on the album and I think it is time for Doom Unit to take a step outside of their home country, Finland, and present their music to the rest of the world… maybe they could start by posting their news also in English.
