The Finish guys Whorion have a clear vision: combining bone-breaking Metal with symphonic elements. Since Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth, this idea is not new anymore but there are only a few bands who dare to try it. So „Fall of Atlas“ reminds me quite a lot of Dimmu Borgir`s last opus „Abrahadabra“, but it´s nowhere near as good as the Norwegians´ masterpiece. The reasons are obvious: Whorion demand a great deal of the listener. First of all, it´s hard to make out any structures, the songs have been built upon. Even after listening to the record for the tenth time, I still cannot identify neither chorus, nor verse nor any element at all. The instrumentation is very complex, which is, generally, a good thing but in their case, one blast beat chases another and one staccato riff follows the next. On top of it, the guys erected massive orchestra towers, which are as such very well-composed, but they make the sound so much more hectic and confusing, which is not a good thing. Just a few amendments would really improve Whorion´s music, like some rhythm changes, for example, or small breaks to give the listener time to breathe or just a few more catchy parts. But nevertheless I am really curious about the future of this band!
