When I mention that this CD did not quite surprise me, it could be misunderstood – I simply heard many of the songs before visiting CCG concerts... What came as a surprise was the tough Speedmetal-like opener “My fist and I” which gives you the impression that Cold Cold Ground focus their second album rather on the second part of “Industrial Metal”. Yet the first notes of “Welcome to Hell” prove that there is still plenty of Industrial/Electronic content. What remained the same is also the cynical undertone of their lyrics that combine social criticism with black humor. Many of those climax in an incredibly catchy chorus that will settle comfortably in your long time memory. One of my faves, for example, “Model Citizen”, or “Tourist” with its Rammstein riffing. Another surprise is the title track where the band shows their softer side, yet still delivers a heavy punch. The big finale is a song live audiences usually wave their ligthers/cell phone displays to – a keyboard-dominated ballad, but also here a sinister undertone can be detected. Summary: the perfect party CD for people who like to decorate their birthday cakes with black candles…
