As I put the CD in the tray, I am hit with a powerful double bass and somewhat confused I grab the CD case and look at the cover: Yes, Xandria... The title track "India" is very reminiscent of Nightwish and it demonstrates that these five guys from Bielefeld are treading new ground with this album. Where the previous album "Ravenheart" had some shallow gothic elements, characterised by discretely emphasised guitars, on this new album their sound seems to have been completely refurbished. They rock, but they don't lose the essence of the sound, the melody and the vocals. As far as the vocals are concerned, redhead Lisa gets thumbs up, as she is sticking to a more normal pitch this time around and does her voice a lot more justice - and this is especially clear in „The End of every Story“ - than with those excruciatingly high arias. "India" is a very versatile album with a bombastic, epic sound, abundant choruses and irish-sounding folk. A good investment for fans of bands like Nightwish, Within Temptation and such.
