Bastardogs, hailing from Italy, fully dedicated themselves to Sleaze. With their Album “No Pain No Gain”, they released a record for the very first time. Only formed in 2010, the band has already gone through some severe line-up changes. At the moment, the band consists of Bonne on microphone, Andy on guitar, Cosme on bass and Atta on drums. Soundwise, it´s very obvious that they are inspired by bands like Mötley Crüe and also Crashdiet. “Edge of Youth”, for instance, is a tribute to Crashdiet singer, Dave Lepard, who passed away at the early age of 25. Ten songs made it onto “No Pain No Gain” and they sound good. There are great guitar riffs, accompanied by lyrics worth listening to but somehow I miss that certain something. The guys are not bad, technically, neither when it comes to playing their instruments nor singing, but maybe it´s the recording that makes everything sound too smooth. Where´s the dirt, the snot? Also, the songs all sound a bit similar and there´s no real punch line; the transition from verse to chorus is always very sleek. Unfortunately, the brilliant guitar solos don´t really help here either. Songs like “Snakehead” show that they know how to do it better but, even this song could be more distinctive. If the guys, next time, focus more on song variety and maybe a bit more on power, they should be on the right track to tour with their idols soon.
