The story of AOR band Seven is certainly interesting. They formed in the late 80s, toured successfully, recorded two singles and were dropped by their label. In present day, Escape-Musicīs label boss, Khalil Turk, brought them back together to finally release an album in the original line up – “7“ is the result.

Itīs a fine hard rock album and it does not sound as 80-ish as one might expect. It has a fresh and somewhat edgy present-day sound that works well. The melodies are powerful and complex, softer keyboards contrast the rougher guitar riffs and the lyrics arenīt bad either. Not to mention the driving drums and great singing. The sound is reminiscent of other bands - I hear traces of Heart, Foreigner, for example, but there are many others I cannot name. So this may not be the reinvention of the wheel but it takes elements that work in other music and combines them into strong new songs. “7” is a listenable album throughout and anyone who is into Hard Rock and AOR should check it out.
