"Misanthropy" by the Italian Black/Death Metal band Hiss From The Moat was released quite some time ago, and the reason, why nobody at stalker.cd took notice of it, is probably because of the not very creative cover artwork. But, after giving it a try, the album turned out to be surprisingly good. Belonging to the sub-sub-genre Blackened Death Metal, the album gets straight down to the nitty-gritty, without the band indulging in endless high speed blast beats. "Misanthropy" impresses primarily with its striking precision, which, at times, reminds of Experimental and Industrial Metal bands like Meshuggah or Fear Factory. This is mostly due to HFTM´s technically sophisticated drummer, James Payne, who is also in charge of the drums for Hour Of Penance. The machine-like intermezzos make for a fascinating contrast to the characteristic Black Metal blasts and melodic interludes. All in all, "Misanthropy" is a well-made mixture of Death and Black Metal. Song recommendations: "Honor To The Mother Of Death", "Moralism As Anesthetic".
