Since forming their gang in 2002, Eluveitie have been known for hard (Death) Metal with Gothenburg influences and folky elements inspirations. Once a pure studio project, the band has since become the most successful Metal export from Switzerland. Over the past ten years, the Swiss did not only develop their own sound, they also influenced many other bands. So it does not really come as surprise that Chrigel and his guys and girls did not deviate too much from their tried and tested sound formula on their new record. There are only minor details that are new: the folky instruments are bit more dominant and playful, for instance. But all in all, 10 out of 12 songs are more or less as expected. Only two tracks stick out a bit because of their certain pop appeal: Celtos and especially The Call Of The Mountains. It´s actually not hard to imagine, the latter being played on the radio some day. What I really miss, though, are some catchy tunes à la Thousandfold from Everything Remains. Bottom line: Origins is a good record. No more, no less!
