Alana Amram´s latest album is full of surprises. Every time I thought I understood what type of music this is and felt ready to attach some label to it, the album changed tune and became something else entirely. All in all, Americana may be the label that fits best but it feels wrong to stop there. Some songs I´d put in the singer/songwriter category, others deserve being called country or folk and some are straightforward rock songs. The mixture is exciting and shows more variety than I had expected. The album starts out slowly and almost feels like a Blues record, then more like a Singer/Songwriter one. Yet, it suddenly picks up speed during the second half of the album and rocks out until the end. While none of this may be music never heard before, it is still intriguing. Apart from Alana Amram´s amazing vocals I especially enjoy the guitar work on the album. Sometimes powerful, sometimes softer, the intricate melodies give each song its very own recognizable sound. For first listen, I recommend “Daughter Of The Sun”, a beautiful ballad and the strong, country-ish “People Like To Talk”. Overall, an interesting album, especially for any fan of Americana.
