„Prolog“ is the first album from Nachtschatten, a foursome from Karlsruhe, Germany. The guys recorded their album in the same studio, in Switzerland, in which bands like Destruction and GURD recorded their albums, too. Nachtschatten combines Melodic Death Metal with German lyrics and sometimes quite unexpected, unusual, folk-y sounds. I do like the melodic parts but, again and again, these are interrupted by total chaos, which I don´t like. Just listen to “Feuersturm”. Unfortunately, I also have to say that Daniel Wengle is not the best growler I have ever heard.
I think the album needs some more fine-tuning, more surprises. If you are using German lyrics, then you can make the sound even more crazy and unique. And the lyrics… well, I´m undecided. There are pretty good elements but there are also some that you can simply cross out. More songs like “Dunkle Sonne”, more investment in vocal melodies and more experiments, also vocal-wise, could make the next album ten times better.
