Kick from the Kingdom are releasing their 3rd album „New Horizon“. After possible problems with Sanctuary, their former label, they found a new home. And now the five gentlemen, astonishingly you only see 3 of them at the same time, are back on top.

All 11 songs were written by the bassplayer Mikey Jones. The result is a repectable rock album, which combines modern guitar-riffs with classic Hard Rock elements.

An outstanding mark is surely the strong and various, eventhough a little self-willed voive of Nick Wortman, the singer. His style of singing is particularly responsible that you feel reminded very much of Hard Rock which was played in the 80ies, and one or another surely grew up with. The arrangements of guitars are smart, partly a little bit Emo-Rock like, and reveal new details also after plenty times listening.

But eventhough „New Horizon“ isn’t that prickly. Old Bon Jovi records have been more lightend. However, already the opener „ Electric storm“ combines complished fresh sounding melodies with a pleasant potion of power. Also the following songs are listenable. „Give me something to hold on“ remindes you of U2 and „Bone“ , with ist funky attitude is a successful trip. For real melal fans it is certainly too tame and for Emo-listeners too pathetic.

A quite conservative record for fans of classical tones. But those are certainly well served.

Sebastian ´Roadie` Sonnak
