After their debut album „Debil“ was removed from the Index of „media harmful to young persons“ a year ago Die Ärzte treat their fans with a re-release. Thus they reacted at least faster than the pencil pushers who back then needed 3 years to discover the dangerous potentials of „Claudia hat nen Schäferhund“ or „Schlaflied“ and indexed the album. 21 years later the „Federal Department of media harmful to young persons“ retracted this measure and so „Debil/Devil“ can now officially be sold to people under 18 years and the above mentioned songs can be publicly played with impunity.

Hence the subtitles: Debil – Der Beginn einer Dära. Eine sozialethische Orientierung (Devil-the beginning of a Dära. A socio-ethical orientation.) What comes across so sociologically is pure irony and the extensive booklet which explains the history and the whole intellectual cosmos of Die Ärzte is alone worth the buy. The CD itself offers - besides the 13 songs which were published with „Debil“ already in 1984 – 5 bonus tracks and 2 videos from early Ärzte days. Whether those 5 songs weren’t published for that long time for a reason is a matter of taste. They fit perfectly to the overall picture of the delayed gratification that is „Debil/Devil“.

A must-have for Ärzte fans, music sociologists and – historians and of course for every good CD collection.
