With „Rapture Of The Deep“ Deep Purple have arrived where you end up as an aging band: a little older and mature, a little slower and in case of doubt you play it safe and copy from yourself („Clearly Quite Absurd“ sounds strangely familiar). Also the orientalising bits were already heard on the album „Perfect Stranger“. Altogether the quiet notes dominate, even the songs that begin straighter will soon be quiet. Not all fans will like that but maybe it´s only a phase in which the new keyboarder Dan Airey is integrated into the sound scheme.
