Orchestral bombast including some calmer parts and even some scary techno stuff is what you can expect if you listen to the soundtrack of „Pirates of the Caribbean 2“. And I found it kind of disappointing because the composer Klaus Badelt, alumnus of Hans Zimmer (who is said to have worked on the soundtrack, too) could have included some more original creations. A pirate movie really provokes Ho Ho Hos and Rum bottles, doesn´t it? And the composer has to withstand comparisons with the Gladiator music, because this here is also quite pompous.

I admit that I corrected my viewpoint slightly after seeing the movie, because if I listen to the music now the scenes and pics pop up, and the movie was great. Despite my misguided expectations of a buccaneer overkill I can give 7,5 points because – with the exception regarding the techno flops – you can just close your eyes and dream of pirate adventures.

Check out: „Barbossa Is Hungry“ and „Blood Ritual“
