Very calm and steady Brit-Pop along the lines of The White Stripes, a more depressed version of Franz Ferdinand. Clean guitars, emotionless vocals and little style variation, although from song to song Marlowe experiments with different elements of the alternative genres: Grunge and Emo are heard most distinctively. To those aren´t familiar with specifics of British melancholy (and boredom), the most listenable tracks of this album are 1 (“Keep The Trouble In Sight”), 5 (“Deep Breathe The Fake Air”), 12 (“All Dressed Up”) and 13 (“Close Up”): catchy melodies, creative lyrics and somewhat cheerful spirit (although the intonation of singer´s voice remains dead solid throughout the record, regardless of track´s beat). The rest of the album is too slow and what sounds like, indifferent (emotions-wise), with perhaps only one exception of track 7 (“Cigarettes and Novelties”): it is also kind of slow, yet still pleasant and appealing. This record is exactly what is usually expected of the British musicians: conveys really nicely the feeling of English grey rainy afternoon and smell of roasted pork dinner and toast.
