With their debut „Spieltrieb“ the Ohrbooten from Berlin offer an intelligent piece of music. On 13 more or less variable tracks the quartet turns topical themes into songs. In “Eurose” the boys complain about the consequences of the European currency. “Dschungelpartei” and “Politix” get even with the work of the politicians. Also love is not neglected. “An alle Ladies” impresses with the interesting instrumentation. “Taub” reminds someone of the song A.N.N.A, with which the band Freundeskreis has had much success.
However, the songs are not composed in an innovative way. Almost all tracks have the same rhythm, which becomes obvious through the speech song. Certainly the songs get liven up by means of the Berlin dialect, and the Caribbean sounds produce holiday feelings. But all in all the songs melt to much into a uniformity of Hip Hop and Reggae to be able to convince.
