Since 8 years 3 Inches Of Blood have been fighting in the Metal scene. After some success and touring as support act in recent years their new output "Fire up the Blades" had been waited for with bated breath. And right away: 3 Inches can meet the expectations. The sound in particular, created by Slipknot-drummer Joey Jordison, is something to get excited about. The guitars saw their way through the boxes, and the drums have your neck move. Only the vocals might split the fans: Jamie Hooper, who sings almost all the time in head voice, sounds like a Thrash-version of scene icon Rob Halford at his best. This alone can be seen as accolade, yet the lack of variety in the vocals has the album appear one-dimensional in the course of playing time. "Normal" vocals, growls or spoken words sometimes would have added dimensions to the 3 Inches sound.
