You could already tell by the queue to the toilet that this is a concert of the „grand seigneur“ of metal because hardly ever you can see a really long queue at the Gents’ and almost no one waiting at the Ladies’ restrooms.
The new band from Grip Inc. guitarist and producer Waldemar Sorychta were support. Enemy Of The Sun are a Helsinki/ Ruhr area mix consisting of Waldemar (guitar), Alla Fedynitch (bass), Juha „Jules“ Näveri (vocals) and Daniel Zeman (drums). So far so good but to know that this is their very first concert in front of a crowd and then also support for Megadeth? That’s very brave!
If Waldemar hadn’t revealed that little secret onstage after the third song no one would have guessed. Frontman Juha is a real stage hog and got the death/thrash songs across perfectly.
When the band, in the middle of the astoundingly long set, played the Grip Inc. song „Ostracized“ it was almost unbearable in the sauna called Markthalle. It was a great achievement for the young band to get the crowd in Hamburg really going with songs that were unknown to most of them.
A sold out Markthalle with 30 °C outdoor temperature and an inside temperature resembling an oven is not for sissies – I seem to be one because when Megadeath entered the stage and there was only pushing and shoving I was only able to take pictures during the first three songs. Yeah, it’s a shame, I know. During the first song I tried to focus on the drummer but he was so entrenched behind his gigantic drum kit that I simply had to give up.
„Sleepwalker“, „Hangar 18“ and „Skin O’ My Teeth“ were awesome and this time also the sound was great. I heard the last song „Holy Wars“ from outside and as far as I remember after that song and 70 minutes the concert was over. Very short, even very, very short, gentlemen! Some point deductions for that!
Hopefully those dinosaurs of rock will come back very soon and then for less money (advance sale: 24,90 euros) and more playing time.
