The support act Revolt started exactly at 8 pm, although the club wasn’ t even half full. They will probably be remembered most for their creative back drop, which looked like their mother’s favourite carpet cut in half, with a hand painted logo on it. Their music reminded me a bit of a noisy version of Placebo, but with a really great drummer. After half an hour, their time was up, their bassist tried to hypnotize his left hand most of the time and the singer/guitarist didn’t communicate with the audience at all. It looked as if they were forced to play or something …

An estimated number of 300 people crowded the room when about five minutes to nine the classic Iron Maiden intro of “The Number of the Beast” started the show of My Chemical Romance. Except for the bassist, everyone in the band wore something with black and red, singer Gerard Way e.g. wore a black shirt with a red tie. Interesting detail: the drums of the drummer were all flat, so it looked like he was sitting at a table or something. The band – except for the bassist and the drummer (what a surprise!) – moved a lot, jumped and headbanged all the time. Gerard was also performing his lyrics in a quite theatrical way, with a lot of gestures and poses. They played an energetic set that even contained four songs from their debut but mainly consisted of their new album “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” which had just been released that day. The band seemed to enjoy the show, Gerard thanked the audience numerous times, the crowd sang along to a lot of the lyrics and there was also some stage diving and crowd surfing. The bassist acted a little like a mercenary: he did a good job, but showed almost no emotion and he wore a hooded sweatshirt for the whole show, with the hood on his head! Great show with two really big problems: firstly, the sound was really bad during the whole show, the guitars were too muddy and not loud enough, and second, it lasted no longer than 55 minutes! But that didn’t keep the audience from buying the shirts, which were quite fan-friendly priced at 15 euro’s each.
