The Man Who Would Not Die! This is the right description of Blaze Bayley, who displays such a lot of power and charisma despite the heavy blow of fate he had to endure recently. His wife Debbie died in September 2008, still Blaze began the scheduled tour. All gigs and the DVD „Road to Z7“ - a documentary about the tour and Blaze´s life - are dedicated to her. About 300 people came to Z7 to support him in this worst year of his life and make this show a special event.
This Swiss band offers Metal Sound, melody and a certain amount of aggression. Initially it sounds quite well, but whereas other bands then warm up and get better, with them it´s the opposite. Maybe they were too busy to look cool and forgot the important thing - the music.
This Italian band plays at Z7 quite often and seem to enjoy it. Their music rocks, yet the performance of singer Ronnie doesn´t. Vocally he is good, no doubt, but this evening a bit off, as he prefers to stand in the back on the drum podium and to hide there for minutes. Perhaps that´s the reason the crowd doesn´t really explode, only the guitarists Dave and Paolo manage to warm them up a bit for Blaze.
You can see the effects of recent stresses and strains. Still Blaze gives everything, not to show that he is tired. It seems that his voice has never been that pure and powerful, and definitely he is eager to make this DVD a highlight of his career. One thing he did not have to do this time - looking for a new band. In recent years he had a lot of staff, now with Jay Walsh and Nico Bermudez he has two guitarists who meet his high demands. And Show Man Dave Bermudez is a Bass player who can not only play but also show off. Old and new hits are played, the audience goes nuts, there are stage divers, and also the tour crew takes the chance to jump from stage into the crowd. Sure, new songs like „Voices from the Past“ and „The Man who would not die“ have to be in the program. Finally he plays the song he wrote for his late wife, „While you were Gone!“ and you can see that he struggles not to lose his poise. A great concert, and you have to say that this man deserves respect, although some doubt his achievements during his Iron Maiden times. He knows who are the ones he owes everything - his fans, and he takes time again to spend time with them, give autographs etc. Indeed, Blaze is a great singer and a great charismatic person.
