As the today´s evening proves, In Flames have finally established in the Champions League of hard music. The Turbinenhalle in Oberhausen, which belongs with its capacity of about 4000 people to the bigger concert halls, has to put the "Sold Out!" sign on the door. Many other great bands did not achieve this yet here (e.g. Keator or Judas Priest)!

It is always irritating when the beginning time given on the Internet does not correspond to the actual one. When I enter at 19:30 o´clock sharp, a security tells me that the first band , Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster has already finished its show. A pity, not only for me...

While I must still wait in the admittance, I already hear Everytime I Die, who are just entering the stage. The Boston based Hardcore band is serving their sonic grenades with fury in thier belly. Because a large part of the audience belongs today to the Metalscene, the reactions are rather low. But it might also be a matter of the muddy sound. Then, after 35 minutes the riot orgy is finally finished.

Heaven Shall Burn do have a quite better sound and the mood of the audience becomes brighter. The boys from Thuringia are making a real party and the guys in front of the stage are really grateful of that and celebrate them from the first to the last second..

So the whole show, from the Opener´ The Final Resistance´ up to final ´Black Tears´ , the show is a full success for the guys in the red shirts.

Killswitch Engage, who are wearing white, smoking like shirts are then the optical opposite to Heaven Shall Burn. Those, who experienced the troop around Adam Dutkiewicz already, know what happens here on stage: Vocalist Howard Jones raves like an Animal, the string group around Joe Stroetzel and Mike D `Antonio is banging like hammers on anvils and the master himself runs around as if he was getting money for every completed kilometer.

Fortunately, the sound is crystal-clear in contrast to the previous shows, so that shells like `Rose of Sharyn´ and´ My last Serenade` are coming like thunder down from the PA. All in all, this smellls like a home victory!

Note: In contrast to many haughty American groups, KSE are extremely down-to-earth. While Adam adresses a speech to the audience during the breaks, his Sidekicks throw incessantly water bottles in the first rows. Also Howard Jones` crowdsurfing at the final `Holy Diver` says everything!

Because In Flames have disappointed me at last Wacken Open Air, I am really curious for the today´s evening. Would they find the right balance between new and old material? In comparison to the opulent WOA show, In Flames do not use any pyro techs today (or maybe the must not use them). Instead, they have a big video screen in the back, showing some really great animations.

To answer most questions: Yes, today In Flames have a set which is quite balanced. Whether old material like ´Embody the Invisible´ or ´Pinball Map´, even older material à la ´The Hive´ or ´Artifacts of the Black Rain´ or newer things like ´The Mirror´s Truth´ or ´Take this Life´, 18 satisfying songs in total! And, yes, just by the a little more shed show the songs and also the stageacting are effective again better. Because of the lack of pyros, the band focuses more on stageacting. Anders Friden enjoys contact with the crowd and lets them sing multiple choruses. So this show becomes a big success for In Flames as well, also mastermind Jesper Strömblad is still not on the road.

Setlist In Flames:

Cloud Connected
Embody the Invisible
Pinball Map
Delight And Angers
Disconnected?

Even if the Billing of this small festival tour (In Flames as pure Metal-Act, otherwise only hardcore and Metalcore) was a bit strange, it was, due to the performance of each band, a real success. Also the price of approx. 30€ is quite good such an event. So then: CU next year!
