Actually it is one of those days you´d rather spend at home in bed. The sky seems threatening even in the morning, and indeed, it begins to snow during the trip to Z7. Snow, snow and more snow, somehow fitting to those 2 bands from – equally snow-covered – Finland who play tonight.

The warm-up is said to be a Top Fresh Act and it seems that many came just because of them. Those guys, only about 20 years old, present songs from their album Ego Anthem that came out last September. I have to admit that I had high expectations, because of all those good reviews, yet live they cannot quite convince; sometimes this growl-clean voice mix sounds odd. But at least the girls get some eye candy.

Mystic Prophecy
Another „favorite“ band... oh boy! Naturally it´s a question of taste, and they have a lot of fans here, but they are simply not my cup of tea, despite their good show & sound I find them too one-dimensional. But those who like their music are satisfied, and they surely gathered some more fans.

Finally the band that most of the 700 fans were waiting for enters the stage. Stratovarius has not been at Z7 for a while, also because Timo Tolkki left the band in 2008. Back then you could hardly expect a Stratovarius concert NOT to be totally sold out, last time with Tolkki they even had to perform twice in totally packed halls. It seems they lost some fans, yet their songs have neither lost power nor appeal despite having a new songwriter and guitarist. Matias Kupiainen does a very good job and has a very sympathetic stage persona. Mr. Kotipelto has some problems with his voice, but no wonder with such rough winter weather. Lots of show and ice right outside the venue, which guarantees a nice trip home... CU next time. . / /
