Dirty guitars, Modern Rock with obvious roots in Blues and the presentation of a debut album united those 2 Finnish acts that rocked Tavastia on a Wednesday. And in front of an impressive crowd that came to join the party.

The Blanko
had been totally unknown to me, but I´ll surely keep an eye and ear on them. Pauli Hauta-aho (guitar & vocals), Jakke Saarinen (drums & backing vocals) and Marko Haataja (bass) had inspired me to check them out live again. A classic power trio that rocks like hell. According to their own definition it´s Modern Retro-Rock, I´d define it as Blues-rooted Rock´n´Roll plus Emo- and Prog elements, and thanks to their front man they pull off an impressive show. Pauli has a versatile voice and raised the energy level of his performance continuously, in the end we got front-teeth-guitar-plucking a la Hendrix, a salto from the drum kit and more – pure energy and fun.

Musically when it got too close to Alternative-Ballads it turned a bit too cheesy for me. Nevertheless, you should check out their "Flying Colours" CD will be released on the 6th of April by Ratas Music Group Oy.

Jericho Fuzz
The dirty guitar sound and a good portion of Rock´n´Roll Feeling should continue, yet drifting to a more psychedelic mood. Less action, because Suho Superstar (voc), Mikko Happo (guit), Tim Torpedo (bass) and Moses Psychosis (dr) had to focus on their rather complex song structures. A young band with mature musicians: Suho Superstar became infamous as the front man of the cult band Jimsonweed. Mikko Happo has played in Hidria Spacefolk.

The Feeling focused on the 70s era of supergroups, Suho as the charismatic central figure – the man with this original voice is definitely one of the best singers in Finland. A bit of Black Sabbath, a bit Led Zep / T-Rex and some Stoner Rock – that inspired the Rasta-guy as well as the leather clad Rocker to dance wildly in front of the stage. No need for salti or guitar battles, but the band was a bit too static for my taste in the beginning and only warmed up a bit more in the last third of the gig. Well, as mentioned, The Blanko take the reward for energy this time. Still, mission accomplished when it comes to presenting the Jericho Fuzz debut album “Last Mission on Earth” (produced by The Blake´s Aaro Seppovaara), and with those video clips on the band website you can make up your own mind.
