After almost selling out the venue in Cologne the previous night, Jim Kroft did not draw as many people in Unna, but those who found their way to his concert were much rewarded. In front of around 50 guests, Jim and his band gave all they had for over 90 minutes.

It started with the Irish band The Plea, who entertained us for 30 minutes. They were full of energy and played convincing pop-rock. It was melodic, straightforward and very appealing. They didn’t have any weak songs and made good use of the large stage. The audience liked it and hey received much applause.

Their short set made me want to hear more and it was the perfect warm up for he main act. This band is worth to be remembered.

After a short break to change the stage setup, Jim Kroft and his band - Ben Barritt (guitar), George Moore (keyboards), Dan Telander (drums) and Lucas Dietrich (bass) - entered the stage. Jim thanked us for coming and promised they’d give their best. They kept the promise, being full of energy and obviously enjoying their time on stage. The sound was good as well and so everything was perfect for a fun gig.

Jim Kroft is one of those hard working Singer/Songwriters that are rarely found these days. For years he has played for small audiences that slowly grew bigger; he has gained many fans that way. Even after signing a major label contract for the third album, he has still remained with both feet planted firmly on the ground and is still happy to just play his songs. For him, live gigs are not something has to do but the best part of being a musician and every evening is special to him. His fans are grateful for this attitude and so was everyone in the audience this night. The music needs a bit of attention. Those who are willing to get into it will be rewarded with melodies that worm their way into one’s ear and good lyrics that won’t be easily forgotten.

Unfortunately the venue seemed a bit empty with people scattered all over the place, but it was clear they liked what they were hearing. The band’s energy was contagious and during the course of the concert, a few of those who had stood in the back moved closer to the front. Jim was moving constantly, being all over the stage, while the rest of the band didn’t move so much and concentrated on playing.

The mixture of old and new songs was just right. It didn’t matter if they were from the first, second or third album, all songs were well received and the fans even sang along to the songs from the “One Story One Song” project. These are based on stories and thoughts sent to Kim by his fans and were only released on Spotify. Those who don’t know his music as well, got to listen to singles like “The Jailer” or “Tell me (where to begin). Anyone, who visited this concert and didn’t walk home with a smile on their faces, wasn’t really there.
