This is the first movie I have ever been to where I have seen someone in the audience almost vomit and have to leave the theatre. He was wearing a suit, which made it even funnier!!! Unfortunately, that was the only new and exciting thing about “Hostel Part 2”.

In 2005, Eli Roth scared the brown stuff out of just about everyone in the world with “Hostel”. It was a fresh take on the slasher genre, a bolt out of the horror blue. It was a bold step away from Hollywood´s attempts to reinvent slasher films by using teenage up-and-comers. Many people thought a scary movie had to have Sarah Michelle Geller in it, but Hostel proved otherwise and delivered the goods. It certainly delivered the goods to Eli Roth´s pocket, as it has grossed over $100 million (US) worldwide. And the thought of a little more cash means we have a sequel. Yes folks, it´s time to go back to Slovakia.

“Hostel Part 2” picks up where “Hostel” left off. This time it is three young American girls who are the targets of the Elite Hunters. Beth (Lauren German), Whitney (Bijou Phillips), and Lorna (Heather Matarazzo) have arrived at the Eastern European Hostel for a good time, but soon they are hunted in a deadly game. A price is on their heads for the highest bidder, and the likely contenders are two American buddies, Stuart (Roger Bart) and Todd (Richard Burgi).

Ok, ok, so it is just the first movie again, but with girls in the lead roles and less nudity. There are no new twists, and you will not become a better person from watching it. There is very little character development. There are plot holes big enough to drive a forklift through. But that is not what “Hostel Part 2” is about. It
s about blood and gore, torture, and death. And if that is what you want for a night of entertainment, then this is The One for you.

In a refreshing break from tradition, the production crew is exactly the same as the first movie. The special gore effects are even better in this offering, although it is hard to top the “Eye Scene” in “Hostel”. But they have succeeded (a word of advice to all males who watch this movie – cross your legs and be afraid. Be very afraid).

So let´s face it, you´re not going to see “Hostel Part 2” for it´s artistic merit, you´re going to see it because it is gory, it is sick, it is… well, it is everything it is meant to be.

Just don´t wear a suit, because they cost a lot to get cleaned.
