Tuborg Greenfest is the huge musical event held in many countries in Europe, first held in St. Petersburg in 2005 and since then has been annually entertaining the Russian citizens. This year with a really stunning line up: Lyapis Trubetskoy (Belarus), Hollywood Undead (USA), Die Antwoord (SAR) and The Prodigy (UK).
The first to perform was Belarus band Lyapis Trubetskoy, the guys widely known in Russia for their witty and ironical texts and energetic punk-style music. The band emerged back in 1996, has recorded impressing 13 albums by now and can boast a big fan base thanks to the unique mixture of dancing vibes and the sharp texts, covering the current events and situations familiar to everyone. The crowd was merrily dancing and singing along the lyrics under the open sky of Petrovski Stadium. But with the set of Lyapis Trubetskoy ended also the good weather, and the rest of the open air was accompanied by the rain, to the certain obvious discontent of the public.

The next act was the famous American rapcore (also attributed to as rap-rock, alternative and rep-metal) band Hollywood Undead, who captured the intense attention of the public with their masks as much as by their texts and music. The six guys from LA rocked the public with party-videos, funny nicknames (Funny Man, Charlie Scene, J-Dog, Danny, Da Kurlzz & Johnny 3 Tears) and their mysterious appearances. Although the band was formed in 2005 and recorded 3 studio albums (the 4th one to follow shortly), this was their first visit to Russia, which was of course the huge event for the local fans, which packed the venue and were dancing and jumping to the favorite hit songs in spite of the rain. The gansta-crew was so impressed by the welcoming and warm reaction of the fans, they promised to come back in autumn with a tour to support of the new album.
Next were sensational south Africans Die Antwoord, consisting of Ninja, Yo-Landi Vi$$er and DJ Hi-Tek. The band blew the minds of the international community in 2010 with their juicy zef-rap performance, abundant in bright colors, African motives, mad dances and controversial but sincere lyrics. Many could call them freaky, but even so, you can’t deny their style and incredible charisma. In rainy and cold St. Petersburg, they appeared as an electric-orange flash or dancing flames. Ninja threw out his hoodie at once, showing his lean torso covered in tattoos and the good example to the crowd how to instantly get warm in any circumstances. Yo-Landi, to the disappointment of the male fans, did not follow his example, but was jumping and dancing during all the concert, igniting the crowd with her electric voice. Although the rainy open air may seem not the perfect place for such a band, which more belongs to the sunshine and heat or the nightclubs, the band managed to charm not only the dedicated fans, but also the people who came to Greenfest for some other act and didn’t know Die Antwoord that well.
And finally there came the time for the headliners – the renowned rave idols The Prodigy. As it was already fairly late (the time was 10 pm) and the rain had not stopped since at least 3 hours, a rather strange situation occured. The lineup, although it is really great, belongs to slightly different genres, and the crowd was considerably less unanimous than during the previous Greenfests headlined by Limp Bizkit, Red Hot Chilli Peppers or Metallica. This year, many people were here to see Hollywood Undead or Die Antwoord in first place. Therefore having their their hearts’ desire fulfilled and feeling considerably chilled, people started fleeing home. So by the start of the Prodigy set, only the true rave-fans remained. And they were awarded not only by the superb show from Liam Howlett, Keith Flint, Maxim Reality but also by the fiery dance of the green greenfest fairies.
