Like the album title already suggests, The Burial Tree (II) is the follow up to the debut „Volume 1“ of the US-American band Ana Kefr. The guys from California have fully devoted themselves to extreme progressive metal; the band info even mentions something like “philosophical metal” – simply meaning, the stuff on The Burial Tree (II) is certainly not very easy to digest.

In the beginning, though, the constant changes in tempo, vocal style, instrumentation, etc rather prompt a feeling of agitation. After a short adaptation phase, however, one becomes more and more excited to find out what comes next. One element of surprise provides Nikki Simmons who, vocally, adds a feminine note to three of the songs - amongst others to the very beautiful ballad Monody, a 7-minute epic. After that the tones get harsher again, which is also the predominating style of the album. But, there are also some very catchy (vocal)-passages like with In The House Of Distorted Mirrors.

Thus, on The Burial Tree (II) some very different elements stand closely side by side und they want to be regarded as an entity, which doesn´t always work. Bottom line: an ambitious project for enthusiasts of fluctuating song structures.
