Luckily, I had no clue what I was getting myself into before I left for this show. Actually, I only went to Zürich to interview the guys from Stoneman and see their first gig with new bassist Cris before the release of their new album (26.11.2010). But, ok, let´s be open-minded and check out the two other bands, too. Then again, you shouldn´t say anything when you can´t say anything good…

Hämatom

With their outfits they have at least proven some creativity, even though their masks remind of Slipknot. But bogeyman and Mr. Vocalist all in white make you expect an interesting band. Faaaaar from it because the band simply exploits children´s songs for their own odd purpose. Aren´t they imaginative enough to write their own lyrics? Or do they think they can only win the crowd over with songs that everyone knows? They do have some of their own texts, too like with “Spieglein” but it´s not getting any better there. With this song, the guys express their opinion about Heidi Klum, together with an inflatable rubber Susi, that´s how I call them. Of course, Heidi annoys a lot of people with her supermodel ado but this song and then chucking the rubber doll brutally to the ground is just primitive. Fortunately, Hämatom bring their whole gig to a quick end with “Leck mich”.

Stoneman

Stoneman are finally back after a longer break and with them, they brought a new album and a new man on bass. After Dave Snow left the band, the band´s former tour manager Iron Cris has taken his place. Stoneman kick off their gig in their usual manner with their first hit „Devil in a Gucci Dress“. Especially the new songs like “Hope you all die soon“, „Suicide to Suicide“ and „White Star“ come across live as awesome as on record – they simply rock your ass off. Sadly, the guys have some technical problems during their gig. Fly´s mic doesn´t seem to be mixed in the right way because you almost can´t hear him at all. Otherwise his performance is great. Also Iron Cris does his job brilliantly; he attracts many girls´ attention. It´s pretty clear where he got his name from. Take a look at the pics and you know what I´m talking about. Singer Mikki is totally in his element on stage, some heaviness, a tiny bit of coolness, a hint of aloofness and a great voice. Oh yes, those who would like to hit the drums as good as Rico, can enrol in his drum school now. The guys could maybe get a bit more in touch with the audience but all in all it was a perfect gig that was over way too fast.

Eisregen

This dark metal band is mostly known for its unusual lyrics. Two of their albums were placed on the index. Their works „Krebskolonie“ [Cancer Colony] and „Farbenfinsternis“ [Color Darkness] were thus forbidden. Also tonight´s concert is not for minors but it seems like that the about 500 concert goers in the sold out Dynamo don´t really understand anymore what the lyrics are about. For me, though, it doesn´t make any sense, I think it´s just silly. And then the stage setting… One banner reads in fat white letters “Jesus” and on two other banners, right and left of the stage, you see Jesus with female breasts, nailed to his cross (like on the album cover). Obviously, it´s a matter of taste, as with the lyrics…but I better don´t say anything anymore.

Verdict: Stoneman deserve all of the 8 points alone!
