In Germany rocks the Pop. Carsten Pape is otherwise known in front of 60,000 fans in the HSV-Arena with fellow Lotto King Karl celebrating the anthem "Hamburg, meine Perle" (Hamburg, my pearl). In the 80s he was with his Neue Deutsche Welle-band, Clowns&Helden one of the main acts, and his hit “Ich Liebe Dich" circulated successful through the charts. He also wrote songs for Nena, Peter Maffay and many others. Since a few years, the Hamburg veteran rocks with his new band in which the brothers Reiner and Meik Dobbratz defend the flanks, and this is therefore called Papes Brüder (Brothers Of Pape).

In the “Zwick”, St.Pauli, it was about to introduce the new CD "Brrrrd Pop" (written "BRD Pop") live. On this album is also to find as an old friend and companion the song "Ich Liebe Dich" again. Yes, in Hamburg pops the Pape.

The restaurant looks special because of the about 80 bass guitars hanging on the walls, a part of the collection of the owner Uli Salm, who celebrates here regularly with his band Rudolf Rock Allstars his “house parties”. Highly visible on photographies on the wallpaper remains the numerous photographs of Hugo Egon Balder, TV performer and founding member of Birth Control, who also participates frequently in the sessions.

In this Hamburg ambience the Pape trio purr their tunes. The store was well stocked, mainly of diners, drinkers and talking guests, and it may be doubted whether the majority was clear to which Hamburg pearl they were listening here, at least those who where coming from ouztside and passed along the close to the entrance located stage.

But Carsten Pape showed how good "Pop-music" from Germany may sound. He proved definitely an exciting talent for the electric guitar, which gave the pop a rocking flavour and partly reminded with its psychedelic rhythms of the early U2. And by the way he did this in a very whimsical and humorous way. Reiner Dobbratz who builds since 24 years basses in his own bass factory "Le Fay" used intensively the chance to try one of his products. The brother Meik was cheerful to swirl the sticks on the cymbals.

In the singing pop and rock mingled, and offered a feeling in a Pape'sche way to the musical presentations of Grönemeyer. In each case the man has enough experience not to varnish his lyrics with superficial gloss, but recites a simple but direct way out of life. This is real and not constructed. At least in Hamburg, the new disc should get an wider audience. But also non-Hanseatic people of the Republic should find its fun; it was in any case a great performance.

After one and a half hours and a few voluntarily additions the show was over. In the “Zwick” but it was much closer now and several mothers have started to swung her swinging rhythm bones.
