"Zombie Love Club" Host and DJ Jyrki69 (of The 69 Eyes frontman) invites this time to the "Halloween Edition" at the "Kokomo Tikibar" instead of the usual venue "Alakerta". We don`t mind the non-recurring change of the venue for Halloween at all, as this place is one of THE top locations in Helsinki. Consistent with the Hula Hula style of the bar, the DJ is apparelled with a very colourful Hawaii shirt - but plays once again everything the dark Rock`n`Roll heart desires: Gothic, Glam, Sleaze... In between, the burlesque artist Lucky Hell performs her show and to those who think that the Australian living in Finland is just one of those numerous Dita Von Teese copycats nowadays: Far from it! Visually, Lucky Hell may be a mixture of Dita Von Teese and Kat Von D, but her shows include much more than dance, and so she lies down on broken glass, hits nails into her face, swallows a sword... For some people in the audience it seems to be a bit too much - but who considers this performance as creepy: Remember, it`s Halloween!

Basically we already have everything a felicitous Halloween party requires... But six guys from the West-Finnish Kokkola obviously came with the aim to top everything: Velvet Six. All dressed in black, they enter the stage and start their show with fog effects and "Cyanide Rain". Singer Olle, visually a mixture of Ville Valo and Henry Lee Roots, impresses not only with his enormous stage presence and his strong voice, but also knows how to entertain with funny introductions, e.g. for the ballad "Sleep With Me": "Now, it`s gonna be romantic!" The girls start to scream. Olle also heats up the vibe shouting "Happy Halloween!", inviting to clap along, and every now and then he theatrically goes down on his knees. Naturally, it`s tongue-in-cheek – yet they seriously offer first-class Gothic Rock I haven`t heard since HIM and The 69 Eyes.

Admittedly, Olleīs voice reminds strongly of Ville Valoīs, but itīs indeed his own, he doesn`t desperately try to imitate the HIM frontman like so many other singers in that genre. Furthermore, the Goth Rock songs of their debut album "Dark City Nightlife" also contain a lot of synthesizer elements. "Creativity" is the keyword, even though Velvet Six will later on choose a song as their encore which has been also one of Mister Valo`s favourite covers back in the days: Billy Idolīs "Rebel Yell". Nevertheless I must say: I have heard this cover from many acts I really appreciate - but this is the most energetic version Iīve ever heard! I`m impressed - by the whole gig!

Conclusion: Even if it wasn`t really Halloween yet, it was anyway the so far best and most rocking Halloween party of my life... Everything just fitted perfectly and Velvet Six have exceeded all expectations by far - and scaring those in particular who will have to compete with them in the future...
