Daywatch is the 2nd film in the “Nightwatch” trilogy, the acclaimed Russian movie series, and features the same duelling vampires, dark shadows, unbelievable special effects, and absolute confusion as its predecessor.

The film is set a small time since the first movie. Anton (Konstantin Khabensky), a member of the Daywatch, is still fighting the forces of darkness with the “Chosen One”, Svetlana (Mariya Poroshina), while attempting to find and save his son from the evil vampires of the Nightwatch. But he is soon framed for the mysterious murders of a number of Nightwatch members, and must solve the mystery before the truce is broken and war begins.

Do not go to Daywatch if you have not seen Nightwatch. You will be left confused, and will probably be crawling to the door in less than an hour. The sad fact is that the same will be true even if you have seen the first movie. It is a film that tries very hard to be The Matrix, but fails on one big point – it has no plot. Impressive special effects are over shadowed by a script that looks like it was fed to a document shredder, and acting that is not only appalling, but makes one wonder if this is a professional production or a film school experiment.

This is a movie best enjoyed by fans of the genre, or people who can appreciate computer-driven effects.
