The end of a legend - Londonīs famous Astoria Theatre will hold a Demolition Ball later before closing its doors for good to make way for the Crossrail development. Demolition is due to begin January 15 on the venue that has hosted every big name in the music biz, e.g. The Rolling Stones and Nirvana. STALKER was present at some of the last Astoria shows...

URIAH HEEP, 23.11.2008
Their support MACCARA, a British quintet, did a good job and presented a front woman HOLLIE EVANS and good Heavyrock.

What a surprise, I actually made it into the first row, right when the URIAH HEEP Opener Wake The Sleeper started. The Astoria was full and the cheers became louder with every song. Bass player TREVOR BOLDER enjoyed to play the new songs, and so intense that his old bass guitar seemed to fall to pieces. MICK BOX on guitar was also very energetic, and Keyboarder PHIL LANZON occasionally played new variations of their songs. Drummer RUSSEL GILBROOK impressed with his skills, only lead singer BERNIE SHAW sounded somehow different, only afterwards I heard that he had a flu. Still he presented a flawless show, this time my favorites were Angels Walk With You and July Morning – simply great!

URIAH HEEP played the complete Wake The Sleeper Album and in between a few classics, and Lady In Black as the last encore wrapped up the concert.

THUNDER, 30.11.08
The second Support-Band of this evening named HEAVENīS BASEMENT, 5 guys with singer RICHIE HEVANZ, played a rough gig, very good rock, heavy up to metal, none of their 40 min were boring or stressing.

After a brief stage re-set the same intro began that was used 10 years ago: AC/DC Thunderstruck, and the crowd shouted for THUNDER . A bang, a flash, and THUNDER took off with Backstreet Symphonie, followed by On The Radio and Carol Ann, 2 songs of their new album Bang!. THUNDER were great last year, but this time indeed a BANG! LUKE MORLEY guit, BEN MATTHEWS guit, keys, CHRIS CHILDS bass, HARRY JAMES drums and DANIEL BOWES voc. seemed to explode with engery and inspired their fans. A freal smash in a full Astoria, and when DANNY BOWES stopped singing in between the song, the fans just continued. The new album was present with only 3 songs, but their mix of new and classics was superb. You could not help singing along and cheering, with songs like Dirty Dream, Devil Made Me Do It or Canīt Keep A Good Band Down. During Love Walked In and Higher Ground the crowd exploded, but the gig was over way too quickly. With a touch of melancholy, as the club is going to be taken down...

FAREWELL, ASTORIA!
