This album with the horrible title – imagine you’d like to ask a salesperson for this CD – is the debut album of Ian O’Brien-Docker. This young guy play four instruments and in his music there are, according to the information sheet, influences of Lenny Kravitz (quite obvious), Beck (also audible) and Kraftwerk (well…). That’s the theory, but how in practice? What is promised theoretically is also offered practically. This record serves Britpop with rock elements and some interesting details. The song “Totally Alright” reminds you of James Blunt, “Darkeyedgirl” offers some parts of this mainstream-dancefloor stuff, in the style of Justin Timberlake. There are also some Santana-like guitar melodies in several songs. Also nice: the intro with the piano in “7.30” and the catchy melody in “You never know”; surely a highlight of this record.
All in all Ian O’Brien-Docker offers with this debut album loads of chart compatible pop, which is not always mainstream. It’s nothing for headbangers, but those who like pop music will also like this CD.
