I´ve always been a fan of the NYHC scene, but although few others represent it as much as Agnostic Front, I´ve always found them a bit boring. The thing with this very American style of hardcore punk metal is that in order to stand out you should have something very unique to offer. To me it´s always felt like Agnostic Front´s only unique thing is being there right from the start. Admirable, yes, but not enough to make me get enthusiastic when they release a new album.
But now they have and it´s called ”Warriors”. The first impression is that the sound is a bit heavier than on the last album ”Another Voice”. While this might give more depth to the general mood on the album it has the downside of making the songs sound too much alike. Then again, one might ask what else does a good hardcore album need than fast powerful riffs and a drum line that forces you to head bang, spiced up with angry shouting lyrics about the state of the world. On paper this all looks fine but when put in to action it´s still boring. Something has got to be wrong when a half an hour long hardcore album seems too long!
For true fans of Agnostic Front this album most likely has everything they were looking for but I´m still looking for that little extra something that makes a band stand out from the masses.
