„Love in Black“ is the first album from the Goth band, Child of Caesar. Daniel Mitchell, behind the mic, is not a dark horse in the genre, he also sings in the US band, Autumns Eyes. Right from the start, you can hear that this band is into the old-fashioned style of music and their Tiamat and Paradise Lost influences are obvious. Their songs often create beautiful harmonies between vocals and instruments. One example is Gates: drums and guitars are kept in the back, leaving space for keys and vocals to unfold. Personally, I prefer the quieter songs because with the faster ones, the dominant guitars often overpower Daniel´s voice. One more negative aspect: some songs sound quite similar (guitar-vocal melodies and song structure). Still, what André Marcussen, Christopher Kassad, Dino Cadavian and Daniel Mitchell created should not only make Gothic fans happy as there are also some metal elements (e.g. Love in Black). This debut is a great one with anthem-like, Goth-inspired songs that are kept simple but turn out to be something beautiful.
