Xaxaxa – strange Name, but likeable Punkrock reminding from time to time of Queens of the stone Age, sometimes of Mando Diao and even Ultima Thule. The music is going straight to your head, but never intrusive and almost danceable. In their native country Macedonia they are certainly more than an underground band. Oh! Here I can read that Xaxaxa just means Hahaha! All the lyrics are in Macedonian language, which has quite an appeal. The formation has been in business since 2009 and this one is the second release, the first was named Tango Revolucioner. The lyrics on the info sheet are translated into English, therefore it´s becoming clear that the guys criticize issues in their home country.
For example, the Opener Hravar nov svet means Brave new World and it’s also one of the best titles of this album. Next one is – oh ah – Kolku nazad mozes da se vratis. Okay, but not as good as the first song. We’re continuing with the title track Siromasni i Bogati ( Rich and poor) and here I got a flashback to German punk in early 80’s – but with more talent and a better production.
Also noteworthy - this Album was recorded, mixed and mastered by the bass guitar player Nenad Trifunovski. No more tips which tracks to listen to from me, just get the album on cd, lp or as download, in any case it’s a worthwhile acquisition. I could imagine to see this band at next year´s Hurricane or Rock am See Festival. For this reason
