Antagonist Zero release their first longplayer „Doomed”: Five songs filled with beautiful guitar melodies, piano parts and influences from all kinds of Metal genres. It starts with “Nighttime Harmony”, soft piano melodies lead into an atmospheric sophisticated song, which is completed by the diversified growls of Ben Pakarinen and the clean vocals parts of Ville Siikamäki. Vocalwise I have to say “hats off!” for Ben´s part, he handles the growls absolutely well, he pours out full power in his straight forward parts, Ville might not be the best singer and here and there are a few flat tones but this somehow fits so well together that it gives a personal note to the band.
It becomes clear that the songs - all between 5 and 12 minutes - focus mainly on the guitarists. This band should offer every autocratic guitar player a place to run riot. This might be an insult for few musicians, but at least with this band it is not intended as one, because the instrumental parts focused on guitars make the music the way it is. Atmospheric, moony, melancholic, the band itself describe their music as catatonic metal, but for my part I don´t think their music is motion- and emotionless, but the opposite - just right for the cold days that are coming up, so that we can be looking forward full of hope to the next spring.
