How was it? North Germans are chilly and reserved? On that Thursday in the “Hamburger Fabrik” hall rather the reverse is true. Onstage at first Merons Lichter and then Fiddler´s Green from Erlangen – in the hall a wildly dancing and celebrating crowd, so very different then the clichés would suggest.
But who can stand still when rock and Irish folk intermingle and 6 gentlemen onstage celebrate and fill the word “Irish independent speedfolk” with truly sweat-inducing content?! “Shut Up And Dance” – a song from their latest record “Nu Folk” – describes the feeling of the evening the best. And so it can happen that one or the other who´s dancing wildly loses his or her shoe… The Fiddler´s still live up to their reputation as a party band even after more than 1000 concerts. Party onstage, party in front of the stage and somehow the borders melt into one big feast. Musically, with a mix of old and new and in between also a soft song so that the crowd can catch its breath and listen dreamily. Or to say it with the words of Albi (vocals, guitar amongst others) towards his fellow band member “Make Hamburg cry, Peter Pathos! Give them emotion!“
No matter what song was played: every song was celebrated – by everyone. whether 20 or 60 years old, whether old rockers, students of economy or aficionados of dark sounds – such a mixed crowd is rare. After about 2 hours including encores half of the crowd crawls home exhausted and happy while the other half is stilled psyched and could tolerate the same dose immediately again.
