Concrete Clouds is the debut album by Hi-Horse -- a Finnish rock/pop duo founded in 2007. According to the press release, the album is a musical ride on a wild horse. I actually expected to hear powerful rock like Rammstein or System of a Down when I put the record into my CD-player. However, the first beats reminded more of a relaxed ride into the sunset like in a Lucky Luke comic. But, for my taste, it was way too electronic and pop.
I have to admit that I needed a start-over with this album a couple of days later. I listened to it loud while cleaning, during a trip by train, and as gentle background music while working. The vocals of Karin Creutz and Jani Kämppi are in perfect harmony. The music is way more pop than rock. Bands like Pink Floyd spring to mind with some of the psychedelic melodies, other tracks again remind me of the German pop-duo 2raumwohnung. This album certainly has a story-telling character and it is best suited as a travel companion for relaxing moments on an mp3-player – regardless whether you travel by train or use some other kind of horse power.
