The Magnificent is another debut album released by Frontiers Records this year. And there´s only one way to describe this album: it´s another milestone of melodic rock. Besides the two main players Michael Eriksen, who´s known through Circus Maximus, and Torsti Spoof, a popular Finnish producer and guitarist of Leverage, The Magnificent sports numerous guest musicians and songwriters, who all gave their best to make this debut a true masterpiece. While Rolf Pilve, Sami Norbacka and Jukka Karinen were responsible for recording the songs, Tomppa Nikulainen (Brother Firetribe), Tuomas Heikkinen (Leverage), Pekka Heino (Brother Firetribe, Leverage) and Mats Haugen (Circus Maximus) were involved with the songwriting process.
In the end, twelve compositions emerged that couldn´t have been any better – with unbelievable guitar riffs and solos. Almost every chorus turns out to be a real earworm that you immediately want to sing along and that will still be in your head hours later. Just awesome! Actually, I´m not a huge fan of the voice of Michael Eriksen because, for my taste, it´s just too smooth and clean; plus, it remains to be seen whether he´s really up to the task of managing those high vocal parts in a live setting as well. However, on this album he uses his voice in a way that even convinces me of his abilities. This masterpiece is recommendable to all melodic rock fans. There´s no better way to invest you money during those cold winter days – it will surely bring a breeze of summer back into your living room.
