It took a while until this album surfaced to the public –, "Elite", was recorded in May 2010 in Gothenburg, the hometown of this Swedish quintet, and mixed by Jonas Kjellgren (Scar Symmetry). A music video was released in April 2011 for the song "Fortified", also featured on Elite, which definitely didn´t make this long wait easier for Metal fans.
WAIT – Gothenburg? Well it should be clear now which genre to expect – still, the first impression after hearing the first notes came as a surprise: Children Of Bodom? There is in fact a connection besides the label, because Internal Demons, the band´s first release in 2008, features a guest solo by Alexander Kouppala (ex. COB)... Listening a bit further, another label colleague comes to mind – MyGrain. But then it´s clearly that trademark Swedish Melodic Death sound, just the way you like it: tough but still a lot of melodies, a catchy chorus, heavy pounding rhythms and a lot of variety in the songs – simply music you enjoy to listen to, and more often. When compared to Soilwork & Co., Deals Death seem to be more into classic or even epic Metal, and they tend to use a headbanger-friendly groove. In other words, if you happen to miss ”the old In Flames”, you can just grab this one. For my personal taste there is not enough of a personal profile yet, but because of this series of great songs on this album (besides Fortified and the Title track also e.g. Hierarchy and Conquer as One with a ballad-intro) I just have to give this rating:
