One or the other might know Tengger Cavalry because these guys from China won the famous Metal Battle at Wacken Open Air 2013. So, it is clear that they know how to play their instruments. But will their mixture of thrashed Metal and indigenous Chinese music also work on a recording? In my opinion, it´s average at most. The sound is really heavy and the Chinese instruments, among them the morin khuur and the dombra, are a nice contrast but the eight songs (plus two intros) don´t really get me excited. Most songs seem to be composed by following exactly the same rules - there are almost no differences between the songs. There are no catchy choruses to discover either. So, Tengger Cavalry have to keep relying on their peculiarity. But this won`t be enough to enthuse the masses for years.
