The trio consisting of Tom Logan, Germar Thiele and Dennis Hornung published an album that needs no percussions or effects – and they did this for the very first time. Therefore, it can pretty much really be called acoustic. If it is as good as it seems to be on on paper, we will see – or rather: hear.
It all starts off with “Stop the Bleeding” – and I need to say that I was captivated from the very first seconds on, the sound of the music and the vocals, fantastic! This melodic piece is packed up with a folky and swinging character, and it simply is something that you gotta like. There is simply no other way, as the song has everything that a good tune needs: it is catchy but still has its very own personality - music and vocals go nicely hand in hand.
If you are more a fan of instrumentals, you might be into „The Irish Sky“ – my finger quickly moved to my stereo´s repeat button, because it is a versatile piece of music that easily wins you over, without no vocals at all. The instruments accompany each other brilliantly and you have the feeling you are sitting on the beach, besides a camp fire with your best friends and enjoy the wind in your hair...
You cannot overlook the fact that “A song of ice and fire” clearly has a connection to the series “Game of Thrones” but this is not making the song any less strong, even for those that are not into this series: A mystic sound of the instruments, the leading guitar tune and the bass in the background, giving the song a darker feeling here and there and, thus, nicely harmonizes with the vocals – this is a song with no blemish.
Not only one cover song, but rather two, can be found on this album – the band dared to approach the classic “Here comes the rain again” and what can I say? Their interpretation of this song has its own charm, especially due o the wonderful vocal sound. As the last song of the album, also Manowar´s “Warriors of the world” got its place – you either like or dislike this version of the song, as it is a rather special version that does not give space for much room in between liking and disliking.
Conclusion As a conclusion I can only state that it is a diverse album – it has a mystic side, a rocking side, its catchy tunes stay on your mind and partially either make you wanna dance or sing along. For those who are not afraid of many different styles coming together on one album, this might be the perfect record for you!
