There is no better ending for the month March than a death metal gig of the greatest kind at a late hour. The Americans are inviting us, after a long term abstinence from Europe, to a concert in Switzerland again. Sure you`ll be dragging yourself there even if it´s Monday and the alarm will be ringing early the next morning, because of work, or to put it right because of school, for most visitors are barely older than 16.
REQUIEM FOR SIRENS The Swiss fresh talent par excellence. The guys simply have what it takes, great guitar riffs on a rough and a clear voice, a good mix. Over and above the keyboarder is taking over a mike and starts rocking along from time to time. For sure there will be a lot we´ll hear in the future of these guys.
In Switzerland you can even find metal bands in the most snowy mountain villages on alp level. Surprise, the gentlemen of Shallow Bloodhood come from the beautiful village Laax. Everybody who knows Laax will think of a number of farmers and cows and for sure many high mountains, which offer you just the right ambiance for good Death Metal.
NEAERA From Germany and touring with As I Lay Dying through Europe. This band is not to be sneered at. People are not only attracted by their hard, cool sound, it`s also their unbelievable talent for animating fans to do anything crazy they want them to. The audience is forming a big circle and all the pogo dancers are jumping around inside, at first very well behaved. Then the circle starts getting smaller and the people are dashing to the middle, jump in the air and knock their heads together and stuff. Ah, how do they say, the one who`s hurt first wins.
Singer Benny Hilleke isn`t satisfied though, next there`s stage diving on the list and the muscular strong arms of the security men are in demand. Men and women keep surfing towards the stage above the heads of the fans and even Benny didn`t miss the chance to take a surf. Not until Neaera have left the stage after a successful show and the ice cubes for injured kneecaps and heads have been melting, peace is returning.
AS I LAY DYING
If they would visit Switzerland more often life would be a lot better! At rare times a band is radiating such an energy and everlasting power on stage. The guys from San Diego are top class, their sound is a mix of Death Metal, Trash Metal, Hardcore with Punk impact. Perfect combination and performed unbelievably good. The voice of singer Tim Lambesis, who is transporting the songs with great emotions and depth, is very impressive, too. Melodic refrains make you dream for a moment, then you get returned back into a brutal moshpit and your feelings ride a roller coaster. As I Lay Dying did a great job tonight and we are already looking forward to their next gig.
