Finally, after 10 years, a new URIAH HEEP studio album : Wake The Sleeper is more than just a vital sign of this living legend. The tour for this album took them also to Vienna´s Gasometer, hte new Planet/Rockhaus. - very round but interesting, and so much bigger than the old Planet.
Salzburg´s Hardrockers SPEED LIMIT recently re-formed and had their baptism of fire recently as excellent NAZARETH Support. Also in Gasometer they took over the audience in an instant, and I wasn´t the only one to sing along their old songs.Too Old To Rock, Too Young To Die or something like that? Whatever - you´ll hear of SPEED LIMIT also in 2009 – super.
Stage re-set, then finally the intro, and with the fabulous opener Wake The Sleeper URIAH HEEP showed their quality. This almost instrumental track made your heart beat faster and presented the excellent Gasometer sound conditions. Overload and Tears Of The World were 2 new tracks they had also played already at summer festivals. The band obviously enjoyed presenting their new record and this energy could also be felt by those 600 fans.
Easy transition to some classics like Gypsy or Look At Yourself, which provided space for soli by MICK BOX on guitar, TREVOR BOLDER on Bass and PHIL LANZON on Keyboard. RUSSEL GILBROOK was a drum berserk who also managed to sing. And BERNIE SHAW, the band´s Leadsinger for more than 20 years, fascinated with his vocal abilities, especially with What Kind Of God. URIAH HEEP played the complete Wake The Sleeper Album live and also some more classics. My first row-neighbours, first a bit reserved, described it: It is simply indescribable!
Well– all I can add is that you should not stick too much to your past hits - stay open to new stuff - just like URIAH HEEP, and rock on. Hats off and again, highly addictive!
