After the great last album Dominator, I was really looking forward to the release of this new one by U.D.D. But already after the first spin, all my happiness was gone: U.D.O. never reach the brilliance of Rev-Raptor`s predecessor.
The CD starts with three very typical, uptempo U.D.O. songs: Neither the title track, nor the first single Leatherhead, or Renegade are really fantastic (in fact, the latter is the best one of them). It only gets interesting with the 4th song, I Give As Good As I Get, which is quite slow and sounds a bit like Stillness of Time off Dominator. The next three songs are again typical U.D.O. and they are again without any real highs or lows, just average. The following Underworld is the first (and only!) real highlight of this record. It is the combination of the quiet verses and the exploding choruses that make this one work! The rest of the album is again average and exchangeable. Only the last song Days of Hope and Glory sounds quite different (because it is really catchy and poppy), but never reaches the quality of other U.D.O. songs.
Similiar to songs is the production: Average and exchangeable. All in all, it sounds to me as if the songs of Rev-Raptor were left-overs from the Dominator sessions. To me, this is the disappointment of the year so far. Now I´ll put on Dominator and shake my head to it!
