I was very excited for this evening because after a two-year hiatus and the departure of singer Pasi Rantanen and keyboarder Kari Tornack Thunderstone are now back on stage again. The Swede Rick Altzi known from the band At Vance took over vocal duties and Jukka Karinen from Status Minor tickles the ivories. The only question is, whether this new combination is still as powerful as before and whether a new voice really fits to the old Thunderstone songs.

The band played an acoustic gig in the local record shop Levykauppa Äx two days before their Tavastia show. It only lasted 30 minutes but was presented with a lot of charm and humour and for a change you could even see the faces of Misters Laurenne, Hjelm and Rantanen which are usually hidden under their wildly flying hair.

At Tavastia the five guys enter the stage already at 10pm which is pretty early for Finnish standards. The good mix of old and new songs is enthusiastically received by the crowd. And it becomes clear that everyone has waited a long time for Thunderstone to come back to the stage. Rick knows how to convince with this powerful, raspy voice and the crowd immediately loves him.

Songs like „Forevermore“, „Until we touch the burning Sun“ and their new hit song “I almighty” are of course part of the set and every word is sang along by fans and friends of the band who are all here tonight.

Despite the great atmosphere and the brilliant sound of the band you are left with a bittersweet feeling because Pasi Rantanen´s voice was one thing that made Thunderstone Thunderstone but you can still see him live with his cover band Joe Doakes. Nevertheless the music of the band remains the same with fast power guitars, booming bass, the incomparable drum solo, the keyboard sounds and lots of flying hairdos.
