A real concert marathon this Saturday: Thanks to (new) earlier schedules at Tavastia I could also enjoy the crazy Thrash-Metal-Core sound attacks of Daniel Lioneye and a part of the Turisas show before visiting Virgin Oil. The line-up of Daniel Lioneye features 3/5 of HIMīs band members, namely Burton, Mige and Linde, the latter as the band mastermind also performed the clean vocals. Yes, that person who years ago hardly spoke, stands on stage and SINGS; the love metallers whooped it up, a song like Kiss of the Cannibal - fucking great. I hope the present HIM fans werenīt too shocked, or too disappointed that Ville Valo is no longer drumming for that band.

Whereas Tavastia was close to bursting at the seams, the crowd took time to fill Virgin Oil, not until the beginning of the show. Which was 23 h, and had I known that, or what would be due from V for Violence - I had definitely preferred to watch Turisas and their Viking Metal until the very end. The cool drum solo raised expectations, but, well, slight weirdness and brutality also here, but unlike Daniel Lioneye it seemed brutality for the sake of brutality - the band name represents the whole program. According to the bandīs definition itīs Goth-Core, for me it was much more Metal/Hardcore-thrashing plus HC-scream vocals.

Or like WASP, on Speed. Well, there were clean vocals in between that sounded like Jyrki 69, or better, like a parody of those. Simply a mix I could not quite enjoy.

The British trio Die So Fluid needed some time to warm up, their sound was too "flat" in the beginning - well, at least after the deafening support act - and Georginaīs voice seemed tired and cracked sometimes. But after 3-4 songs sound, voice and spirits in the hall improved. Even those people who had not quite enjoyed the support act, got into the mood. And well, a STALKER colleague had described it already in the CD reviews, guitar player Mr. Drew is indeed all British stiff-upper-lip, as if he wasnīt really part of the band, everything extremely embarrassing as he was hired by coincidence just for this one gig. BUT towards the end it seemed there was a little smile...

Drummer Al Fletcher had occasionally something to contribute to the conversation, but the dominant character - and dressed as such - remained singer Georgina „Grog“ Prebble, having some fun with the audience, too. They even dragged a fan on stage, named Janne - who quickly disappeared when he heard he was supposed to dance with the band. Well, Finns are shy... The Brits rocked the house with their RockīnīRoll plus Punk plus Prog sound. The musical focus was the new album The World Is Too Big For One Lifetime, enhanced with a best-of the previous CDs, e.g. Happy Halloween from Not Everybody Gets A Happy Ending, and I think Disconnected from Spawn Of Dysfunction.

The first encore block was still not enough for Helsinki audience - it seemed the fans didnīt want to let the band leave any more. And they rocked and danced until the very and, so that the band had a hard time to leave, too. Therefore despite the initial difficulties, it turned out a great evening!
