Finland`s most legendary rock band Hanoi Rocks is still a major public attraction, and as they don`t exist anymore, the focus is now on the former band members and their various projects. In Mad Juana, the acoustic guitar is served by Hanoi Rocks` bass player Sami Yaffa. At the Electric Boys, there are even two former band members of Hanoi Rocks, singer and guitar player Conny Bloom and bass player Andy "A.C." Christell. But the Electric Boys celebrated great successes with their Hair Metal / Funk Metal already in the 80s, long time before Conny played the guitar and A.C. the bass in Hanoi Rocks. Fifteen years after the split of the Electric Boys, the reunion followed in 2009. Since then hardly any shows have taken place outside Sweden, therefore in order to see Conny & Co. at least one time Live on stage, STALKER feared neither trouble nor expense and travelled all the way to Stockholm...
As soon as we arrive, there is a change in schedule: The Electric Boys - who are with Swedish hard rockers Bullet one of the opening acts for tonight`s headliner Mustasch - want to shoot also the music video for their new single release, therefore the Electric Boys are already the first band and start to rock right away with the new composition "Reeferlord" - which might be found on their upcoming album "And Them Boys Done Swang", too - followed by "Knee Deep In You" and the current single "Father Popcorn`s Magic Oysters". What some other bands try to represent with hair spray, make-up and outfits that are suitable for the scene, this quartet is representing it just by their songs, namely the one true 80s Rock. Without annoying-squeaky guitar solos that seem to have no end, without silly poses... Just Rock`n`Roll! It looks so loosey-goosey how they come up with great songs like that and so it looks like when Conny catches the e-guitar someone throws to him from the back. Later on, he even hurls his instrument aloft and catches it again, of course in a loosey-goosey way as always. After "Electrified", another new song called "Angel In An Armoured Suit" is performed, followed by the two classics "Rags To Riches" and "Captain Of My Soul". It bodes ill when the Electric Boys start to play their so far biggest hit "All Lips`n`Hips" - and indeed: The show is already over just after 30 minutes! That makes us a little bit sad. Not because of the long way from Helsinki to Stockholm as the journey has absolutely paid off, but because we could have watched this gig at least three times longer. And that`s exactly what the guys should do: Go for a headliner tour. Worldwide. As the Electric Boys are a brilliant and independent band, so that rather their past activities with Hanoi Rock become an irrelevant fact...
